Ogden Dunes Community Church (Presbyterian)

Baptisms

Baptism is a sacrament (W-1.3033).  This means that it is held to be a sacred event in the life of the Church and the individual.  Each baptism must be authorized by Ogden Dunes Community Church Session (elders) and administered by a Minister (Pastor) of Word and Sacrament (W-2.3011).  We believe when a person is baptized that they are brought into the Body of Christ by faith and they experience cleansing of sin and renewal of life. In baptism a person is bonded to the Body of Christ, the Church, in Christian unity throughout time and space (W-2.300). This act is covenantal since vows are exchanged at baptism.

Because child baptism is a sacred event in the life of the Church.  Ordinarily, we require that a least one of the child’s parents (or guardian) be a member of Ogden Dunes Community Church and regular participant in the worship, life and ministry of the community (W-2.3014).  Unusual circumstance may merit the baptism of a child who parent(s) are unable to present the child for baptism.  As a body of believers in Christ we are commit to nurture each baptized person in the Christian faith (W-6.2005).

Individuals professing faith who want to be baptized and participate in the worship, life and ministry of the Church are welcome at Ogden Dunes Community Church (G-5.0101a-f).  A period of instruction and examination by the Session proceed public confession and baptism (G-5.0101d). If you are seeking the sacrament of baptism please contact the church office and make an appointed with our Pastor by either emailing our church office (office@ogdenduneschurch.org) or calling 219-762-1184.

Weddings

Marriage is the covenantal union between a man and a woman and God.  Our Book of Order states, “In a service of Christian marriage a lifelong commitment is made by a woman and a man to each other, publicly witnessed and acknowledged by the community of faith” (W-4.9000). Ogden Dunes Community Church is committed to helping engaged couples succeed in marriage.  Therefore, regular participation in the worship, life and ministry of the Church is encouraged.

Each wedding must be authorized by Ogden Dunes Community Church Session (elders) and performed by a Minister (Pastor) of Word and Sacrament.  Also, Ogden Dunes Community Church requires each couple to undergo pre-marital counseling with a qualified counselor (W-4.9002a).  Normally, this takes place in six pre-martial counseling sessions.  The purpose of pre-martial counseling is to determine a couple’s readiness for marriage and prepare the couple for a life-long covenant/commitment to each other and God (W-4.9002b).

If you are interested in having your Christian marriage at Ogden Dunes Community Church, request a wedding brochure and application by either emailing our church office (office@ogdenduneschurch.org) or calling 219-762-1184.
